Anberber, an Ethiopian intellectual who studied medicine in Germany, returns home hoping to put his education to work for his country. He encounters political repression, violence, militarization and a fractured community. Moving between his present and memories of childhood and his years abroad, the film explores the distance between ideals and lived experience, and the meaning of belonging after exile.
